Hello
Having spent considerable time on copying all my DVDs to harddisk (to make space for Blu-Rays) I was looking for a convenient way to get my movie collection organized. Luckily I stumbled upon Griffith a while ago and since it supported my favourite database (Postgres) I gave it a go. Needless to say that I never regretted my decision and I have been an avid Griffith user ever since.
One thing bothered me, however. I always wanted to be able to review my movies online. Although I welcomed Griffiths built-in HTML export feature, the work of creating the pages and then moving them to my webserver was too cumbersome - and I desperately missed the possibility to do online queries.
Finally, I found the time to program a small PHP script to suit my needs. The script will display the collected movies in very much the same way as you know from Griffiths HTML export. Additionally, however, it features basic query capabilities built right into the script.
The script has been designed EXCLUSIVELY for POSTGRES backends! It offers the following features:
- Presentation of movies in the same form as the Griffith HTML export. - Online queries (collections or search text in various fields). - Zoom-in to your movie posters - enjoy hour high-res posters! - Multi-language support (English, German - other languages may be added using GNU gettext) - Convenient printing from your browser - with query form omitted. - No creation of thumbnail posters needed - all thumbnails are created on-the-fly.
Since there may be other fellow Postgres users out there with similar needs, I gladly release my script as open source. I hope you'll enjoy it!
Please note that the script is for POSTGRES ONLY! Although it wouldn't be too complicated to support other databases as well, I'm unfortunately lacking the time and the testing environments to do so. If anyone would like to help, please be my guest!
