Young Filmmaker Fellowship 2016-17

Media Collective invites applications from (preferably but not limited to) final year graduate and postgraduate students interested in engaging with themes of political, social, cultural and economic rights and justice using film as a medium. The Fellowship is designed for a time period of 9 months (August 2016 to April 2017).

Why this Fellowship?

Lack of resources, censorship and a corporatised media environment offer limited opportunities for aspiring young filmmakers to meaningfully explore political themes and radical movements in film.  In this light, it is increasingly evident that independently-curated media content hosted by collectives is the much needed radical shift in media production and distribution. The Young Filmmaker Fellowship aims to strengthen ongoing efforts in this direction by supporting engaging work in film

Fellowship Features

·         The Young Filmmaker Fellowship will financially assist 5 projects, with a sum of Rs 1 lakh each. The proposals can be individual or in partnerships.

·         Selected participants will participate in two workshops during the period of the fellowship, facilitated by senior filmmakers as a mentorship platform for developing their projects.

·         A screening of the films made by the fellows will be arranged in Delhi at the end of the Fellowship.

Selection Criteria

The process of selection will involve screening of applications (proposal, methodology and budget) by a panel comprising senior filmmakers and members of the Media Collective team.

Eligibility (Preferably, but not limited to)

·         Final year graduate or postgraduate students in film and media studies

Application requirements (Can be either in English or in any regional languages)

·         A 1500 words (maximum) proposal for the project (objective, relevance, concept and methodology).

·         A bio note (less than 500 words) on your personal journey as a filmmaker.

·         A tentative budget allocation of the fellowship amount.

·         Previous work (Offline copies in the form of DVD, pendrive or online links)

Proposals are invited on, but not limited to, themes such as:

·         Body and Resistance

·         Art as Protest

·         Migration and the City

·         Energy and Ecology
