The RegClean Pro application claims to improve computer performance by removing all registry-related errors - "Systweak's registry cleaner and optimizer will improve your PC's performance by removing registry errors and optimizing your Windows registry."
Initially, RegClean Pro may seem to be a regular and legitimate application, however, this app stealthily infiltrates systems during installation of other software. Therefore, RegClean Pro is classed as a potentially unwanted program (PUP).
Although RegClean Pro is a legitimate application, posing no threat to users' privacy or Internet browsing safety, many PUPs are not trustworthy. These apps generate pop-up, interstitial, transitional, full-page, search, in-text, video, and other similar advertisements that usually conceal underlying web content, thereby significantly diminishing the Internet browsing experience.
Furthermore, some redirect to malicious sites containing infectious content - clicking them can lead to further adware or malware infections. Furthermore, potentially unwanted programs often track Internet browsing activity and gather various related information including IP addresses, geo-location, URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries.
These third parties can misuse personal data to generate revenue. Therefore, the presence of an information tracking app on your system can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. For these reasons, all potentially unwanted programs should be uninstalled immediately.
Most PUPs share similar characteristics - falsely claiming to provide a number of 'useful' features simply to trick users to install. In fact, applications such as Web Updater, Triangle Trail, BestDeal, and Re-Markit are designed only to generate revenue for the developers.
Rather than providing the functionality promised, potentially unwanted programs cause unwanted browser redirects, track personally identifiable information, and deliver intrusive online advertisements.
Potentially unwanted programs are often distributed using a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' (stealth installation of rogue software with regular software-apps). Research shows that many users do not express enough caution when downloading and installing software.
For this reason, potentially unwanted programs are intentionally concealed within the 'Custom/Advanced' settings (usually skipped by users). By rushing the download and installation processes, users commonly install PUPs inadvertently, thereby putting their systems and privacy at risk.
The key to computer safety is caution. Be attentive during the download and installation of any software. Closely analyze these processes using the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings, otherwise potentially unwanted programs (that should be cancelled) will remain hidden.
Right-click on the Start icon, select Apps and Features. In the opened window search for the application you want to uninstall, after locating it, click on the three vertical dots and select Uninstall.
After uninstalling the potentially unwanted program, scan your computer for any remaining unwanted components or possible malware infections. To scan your computer, use recommended malware removal software.
At time of research, RegClean Pro did not install its browser plug-ins on Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, or Mozilla Firefox, however, it was bundled with other adware. Therefore, you are advised to remove all potentially unwanted browser add-ons from your Internet browsers.
Click the Chrome menu icon (at the top right corner of Google Chrome), select "Tools" and click "Extensions". Locate all recently-installed suspicious browser add-ons, select these entries and click the trash can icon.
Click the Edge menu icon (at the upper-right corner of Microsoft Edge), select "Extensions". Locate all recently-installed suspicious browser add-ons and click "Remove" below their names.
If you continue to have problems with removal of the regclean pro pup, reset your Microsoft Edge browser settings. Click the Edge menu icon (at the top right corner of Microsoft Edge) and select Settings.
Select Restore settings to their default values. In the opened window, confirm that you wish to reset Microsoft Edge settings to default by clicking the Reset button.
