Real Desktop give your ordinary desktop new life and turns it into a real desk, where you can rotate, lift and throw around your files like real objects. Beside the standard desktop room you are able to create further rooms including the content of another folder path. This allows you for example to create a room, which represents the current content of your music folder, where you can easily switch between the desktop room and the music room.
The files on my desktop are saved in C:\Users\me\OneDrive\Desktop but I want to see the files on my desktop which are located at C:\Users\me\Desktop. When I create a new file on my desktop it does not appear in the C:\Users\me\Desktop folder which would be my goal.
I clicked the OneDrive icon at the taskbar and went to the account setting where I disabled all selected folders to be synchronised. I then looged out from OneDrive and deleted the C:\Users\me\OneDrive folder. Then I restarted my machine. As a test I created a new file on my desktop and went to C:\Users\me\Desktop where the file didnt appeared .. again. When I look at the properties of the file it sais that it is actually located in the OneDrive Desktop folder (which I deleted).
After removing/disabling OneDrive, navigate to the OneDrive desktop folder that is giving you problems using windows explorer (C:\Users\me\OneDrive\Desktop). Right click on that folder and click properties. Navigate to the folders location tab and press restore default. This worked for me. There is a chance you need to manually find the desired folder location via move and click on the existing folder (C:\Users\me\Desktop).
vncserver doesn't connect to the actual desktop; it creates a virtual desktop that is configured separately. If you want to access the actual desktop then you need to use either the VNC X extension or Vino.
Opinion If you count Android and Chrome OS as Linux, which I do, the Linux desktop accounts for 44.98 percent of the end user market. But if your idea of the "Linux desktop" has a front end of Cinnamon, GNOME or KDE, then it's more like 3.06 percent. Better than it has been at times, but it's no "Year of the Linux desktop." Maybe, though, it will be someday.
For years, I've been watching Microsoft working on moving you from PC Windows to a cloud-based Desktop-as-a-Service (DaaS) model. More proof has recently surfaced, further substantiating Microsoft's grand cloud desktop scheme.
Mind you, it's going to be a much smaller PC market than the one we have today. Those are the breaks. But for people who want a real desktop operating system, Linux will be their first and, indeed, almost their only choice.
Running ubuntu 21.04 on raspberry pi 4 8GB. Remoting in from Win10 pro PC via Microsoft RDP, XRDP installed on raspberry. When I use MS RDP to another Windows machine, the remote presentation is an exact mirror of the remote PC. When I use MS RDP to the raspberry pi, I do not get a mirror image but something altogether different.PC remote view of piPC remote view of piMinimize buttons are gone, the dock has to be called up, etc. Anyway to get it to behave and look like the real desktop?
It's annoying to have to go to a browser, or WORSE, to have to open one, every time I want a piece of information that's in LastPass, so I put the LastPass desktop app on. Is there a version somewhere that's actually functional? That has actual settings, and can do exports, and can change the display to sort by name or by folder?
I have 2 users and 1 vault. I'm at a second desktop attempting to FORCE the Windows store to actually install the LastPass Windows DESKTOP version so there DOESN'T have to be a browser open 100% of the time.
You could try uninstalling the LastPass desktop app that you currently have installed, then installing the LastPass for Windows Desktop app from this page? _download2.php
(You would want to download the LastPass Universal Windows Installer to install the LastPass for Windows Desktop app)
This is the newest version of the app, although it doesn't allow exporting (as this is only able to be done through the web browser extension following these steps) or sorting by name/folder. I have passed this feedback along to our development team to request consideration in adding these updates to the Windows desktop app as well.
AND, after allowing it to INSTALL EVERYTHING, I NOW HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO (NO) desktop LastPass, so I'm far WORSE off than I WAS. On top of that, I have have TWO DOZEN items in the vault that are NO LONGER IN THE FOLDERS IN WHICH THEY WERE PREVIOUSLY PLACED.
So, NO, I'm not going in and blindly uninstalling working software on this system, trying to guess what's causing the your desktop app not to install. You're going to have to be a lot more specific about WHICH piece of software needs to be uninstalled.
HOW do I get a live, knowledgeable person on a phone to get this problem with having NO desktop app fixed? I've tried in here. Nothing useful. I've tried opening a "case" at LastPass. It's sitting there saying "You've responded", which I already knew since I'm the one that responded.
In reality, just like you, I can't even get my hands on that PC app which is what I really want given the irritations of browser use I have already experienced. When I try to download from M$ Store all that happens is I get "Error", the download refuses to start, I am told "Something Unexpected Happened" and I am given an unintelligible error code, a different one to yourself so it seems the problem is not universally the same.
Real Desktop is a 3D desktop environment which really adds a nice touch of eye candy to your overall PC experience. It is reminiscent of BumpTop, the application that made waves before Google bought it and shut it down. This might be viewed as a suitable replacement to that now-gone 3D desktop application.Real Desktop essentially adds a layer on top of your current layout. Doing so unfortunately comes at a cost, and if you're not running graphics hardware up to the task, you might want to think twice before installing this application. On the other hand, if you've got some RAM and graphics power to space, by all means give this a try.The web site of this publisher offers many different layouts and skins on their web site and custom icons are also available as packs. Move on from basic design elements like any desktop might have, and you'll also be pleased to learn that Real Desktop offers some decorations and other treats from their online community.Overall, this program might not yet be as good as BumpTop was and has not yet surpassed expectations by any means. It is very pretty though.Installation note: Real Desktop is wrapped with Somoto adware. You should be very careful during installation, ensuring you decline or "Skip" any additional offers while installing. Careless installation may result in your homepage and search engine settings being changed!
Real Desktop is provided under a freeware license on Windows from desktop enhancement software with no restrictions on usage. Download and installation of this PC software is free and 2.07 is the latest version last time we checked.
Time for ARM Desktop ?
Is finally the right time of the affordable Desktop on ARM architecture ? There is a new Raspberry Pi-3 board at $35, which comes with 1.2GHz 64-bit quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 CPU, Wireless LAN and Bluetooth devices integrated, released by the Raspberry Pi foundation several weeks ago. I have tested the Pi-3 with the most recent version 1.4.9.2 of the Q4OS operating system, which features Raspberry Pi desktop eddition. Q4OS for Raspberry Pi is based on Raspbian distro and is optimized for the desktop application. One can easily setup a tiny workstation with well known desktop applications like Firefox, LibreOffice, Thunderbird and so on. The Raspbian repository with its huge software base is accessible via Synaptic package manager.
Preparing
First, I have loaded bootable Kingston 32GB micro SDHC Card with Q4OS 1.4.9.2 operating system, following installation instructions. As finished, Raspberry Pi enclosed in the case and attached with network ethernet cable, I eagerly plugged USB power on and waited for boot. All went well, and the login screen has appeared in a few seconds, wov Raspberry Pi-3 is really fast ! Login as 'Pi' user with password 'raspberry', feeling the Raspbian distro under the hood. The first login procedure included 'change password' prompt, language selection and resizing the basic partition to fill entire space of the SD card. The last question bids user to select 'Desktop profile' - predefined set of applications to install. I have selected the 'Basic' desktop profile as a starting point, it says:
"Starting configuration for users who want to install desktop applications of their choice. The Basic Q4OS Desktop with common utilities, system tools and libraries."
Downloading about 180MB of software and installing the profile has taken about 20 minutes.
First impressions
Once the Basic profile has been applied, Q4OS desktop comes being opened with Welcome dialog in the middle of the screen. I noticed the speed and responsivity on the first touch, very pleasant experience. I was mostly curious about RAM usage, so I have ran 'htop' taskmanager in terminal. The outcome has been amazing, 'htop' reports just 93MB of RAM utilized ! Well, what about disk space ? Command 'df -h' shows 1.7GB disk space occupied, not bad for the full desktop installed, isn't it ?
Another interesting feature worth noting is the default double panel Start menu named 'Bourbon'. It is quite intuitive, convenient and, as far as I know, very different from other comparable menus from other Linux distributions.
Setup
Connecting to the Wifi network is a fairly standard affair. I have clicked on the network icon in the system tray and select the network. Users will need to enter a password in the connection wizard, if the WiFi network requires one. The next step is to configure Raspberry Pi with terminal command 'sudo raspi-config', I have set timezone and tried to enable experimental OpenGL hardware acceleration driver. Unfortunately, the OpenGL hardware acceleration doesn't work properly so far. According to post-install recommendations in Q4OS installation instructions, I have proceeded terminal commands 'sudo apt update && sudo apt dist-upgrade' for system to be updated. Finally, I have entered Q4OS Software Centre from the Start menu and install Synaptic package manager and other desired desktop applications.
Summary
Raspberry Pi-3 is really fast, Q4OS desktop is highly responsive within, and the performance is astounding. There were no crashes and all worked reliably, as expected. It is really getting closer to the true Desktop experience and the system seems to be very useful and intuitive. The bluetooth device is functional, but unfortunately it's not available out of the box, needs to be configured via command line tool 'bluetoothctl' or 'blueman' package has to be installed and configured. The Firefox package is in version 38, based on the Iceweasel from Raspbian repositories, hopefully Q4OS devs will update it to be more recent in the future. So, is finally the right time of the Desktop on ARM architecture ? Despite some small flaws, we can daringly say, Yes it is !
