unable to connect to Neo4j graph db using gremlin

Hi,

I tried to connect to Neo4j database from gremlin console. Here is the log of what I did

I shutdown neo4j server before entering gremlin console. But still it says "Unable to obtain lock on store lock file: /var/lib/neo4j/data/graph.db/store_lock".

I am not able to figure out what went wrong.

You can't have two separate JVM processes connected to the same Neo4j file system at the same time.  The exception you show is typical of that.  It was good that you shut down the Neo4j Server at one point but it it isn't clear to me if you kept it shutdown, when you finally issues the Gremlin commands in the repl.  If you want to have more than one JVM process connect to Neo4j at the same time you must use Neo4j HA:

Hi Stephen Mallette,

The Neo4j server is down when I issued the Gremlin commands in the repl because I am not able to view web UI for Neo4j via localhost:7474.

Does this means that I have something wrong with Neo4j server.

I'm not really sure what could be wrong here.  That error message is indicative of having multiple JVM processes trying to access the same database.   I can't think of any reason why you wouldn't be able to do what you are trying to do short of that.  Maybe you should retrace your steps and try again, being careful to shutdown one process for the other.  Again, if you need both to access at the same time then use Neo4j HA.
