Hi,

I read lot of post on this topic but I didn't find any persuasive
anwser.

I also read this article : http://romikoderbynew.com/2012/02/22/gremlin-vs-cypher-initial-thoughts-neo4j/.

Q1 : Someone can explain me what is the real difference ?

Q2 : Can we say that Gremlin can be used with lot of database graph
and Cypher can only be used on Neo4j graph database ?

Thanks.

Hey,

Cypher is a Neo4j query language. It is used for graph pattern matching.

Gremlin is a generic graph traversal (and computation) language. It is used for graph path traversal, graph pattern matching, ranking, splitting, merging, etc.

See answer from Marko (TinkerPop) and Emil Eifrem (Neo4j) at  http://groups.google.com/group/gremlin-users/browse_thread/thread/8fd81be1c937b02c

Guys,
we have tried to outline the differences in the Cypher introduction,
see http://docs.neo4j.org/chunked/snapshot/cypher-query-lang.html
