Hi everyone,

Rexster is the first project that Josh, Peter, and I talked about when starting TinkerPop [ http://tinkerpop.com ]. After the long windy road of Blueprints, Pipes, and Gremlin, Rexster is available for use. Rexster is a graph-based ranking engine that is allows you to communicate with traversals over HTTP and thus, treat your Blueprints-enabled graph database as a standalone traversal engine. Currently, Rexster is oriented towards supporting score and rank-based traversals (i.e. if you are dealing with ranking or scoring stuff, Rexster provides all the heavy lifting). If you are interested, the source code and documentation are available here:

http://rexster.tinkerpop.com

There is no official release. In a month or so there should be a 0.1 release. Collaborations are more than welcome.

Enjoy!,
Marko.

Oh---one more thing I forgot to mention in my previous email.

Rexster is good for deploying content-based and collaborative-filtering based recommendations. In short, graph systems and graph traversals are oriented well for recommender system implementations. You can learn more here:

http://wiki.github.com/tinkerpop/rexster/recommendation-traversals

Also, page 8 to 12 of http://arxiv.org/abs/1004.1001 talk about recommendation in graphs.

Take care,
Marko.
