UrmilaMatondkar and RGV were a lethal combination in the 90s. This was the time RGV was at his best creatively, so much so that many A-listers worked with him then and kickstarted their successful careers.

Urmila too was noticed by the director and gave some outstanding performances, whether it was Rangeela or Ek Hasina Thi.One such movie that left a solid impact on the audience was Kaun. The most underrated RGV film that screams attention, 21 years later, too is Kaun!

When Bollywood was swinging between SRK lead romance and Govinda driven comedy, RGV took the plunge of introducing something different. A genre which cannot be completely called horror. A psychological thriller that had a few horror tricks up its sleeve. Kaun is a suspense thriller film about a young, scared girl alone in a house and how she deals with men who try to help her.

It does not have obvious scares making the movie even more worth watching. Incase you think only character is designated to scare you, nope. There are total 3 people in the film and they all have given reasons to send shivers down your spine, making it confusing about who the real 'serial-killer' is.

The opening credits and title track sure you are in for a surprise. The movie starts with Urmila home alone talking to her parents on the phone. Soon she watches the news of a serial killer on the loose and that's when her door bell rings and strong of events take place.

You have to see it to believe it. Manoj Bajpayee enters the frame looking lost and waiting for Mr. Malhotra, however, he gradually gets comfort and fearless and shifts focus from Urmila to him, convincing us that he's the wicked one.Manoj Bajpayee stands out in his character despite being a second lead.

OH MY GOD! the lady who was impressing the audience with Rangeela and Judaai, decided to take up a psychotic role. Today we have Radhika Apte in Phobia or Rajkummar Rao in Trapped behaving cynical but it all started in 1999 with Urmila acing her role in Kaun.

The way she bites her nail before opening the door each time, the way she runs into her bedroom panicking Manoj Bajpayee may kill her to smiling at the audience and speaking on the phone which is not connected to the wire, Urmila does pure justice to the tight writing.

Just because it's Bollywood, RGV did not add any song and dance sequence. Or any love angle and we're grateful for that. Sticking to slick thriller, RGV makes Kaun crisp and scary on so many levels that even repeated watching is not enough.

You have to stay till the ending to see how brilliantly directed movie Kaun is. The ending of the movie will make you say whaaa. Thank you for the nightmares, Urmila! The movie is available on Yoututube.
