Space between staves

I have seen this come up here and there, but none of the recommended solutions seem to work. I simply want the space between my text from line 1 and the top of the staff below it to decrease. I have decreased the the overall staff size, so I want a corresponding decrease in vertical spacing. \changestaffsize unfortunately only has an effect on, quite literally, staff size, and does not scale the whole project (which, I concede, would be of great advantage for one who knew how to adjust the other factors of scale). Any suggestions? code below. Thank you!

This works to increase the space, once I set the second argument to a high enough value, but otherwise nothing will make the staves closer together than the default for some reason.

This will change spaces between all staves. I think I misread your question thinking you only wanted the space between the first and second staves to be changed.

This worked wonderfully. I had to gradually increase the value, because the default was apparently well above 0 (in the ballpark of 40?), but once I found it, I have been able to fine tune this dimension nicely. Thanks so much for the help!

The default is: {55pt plus 5pt minus 5pt}{scaleable}
