Hello everyone,

I am new to Gregorio and to LaTeX. I know that there are websites that handle gabc notation, but I need to use Gregorio within Scribus.

My problem is that I am using Ubuntu 20.04, and I installed TexLive with apt-get. Gregorio's contrib folder is missing, as far as I can tell. Furthermore, it is also an old version of TexLive (from 2019), but that might not be important. Though since I am using Ubuntu, there's no surprise there.

I know that I can find 900_gregorio.xml and gregorio.png on Github, but I have several questions/concerns, namely:

•Where am I supposed to put these files, should I choose to download them? I don't know if they have to go in a specific place, but regardless, I don't want to put them in a folder I may need to move at some point.
•Should I download the contrib folder, or just those two files?
•Will it be a problem to use a newer version of the those files or the contrib folder with an older verison of Gregorio?

Thank you very much for your help (if you reply, feel free to answer in English or in French).

Hello,

Have you installed texlive-full, or only one of the smaller packages?
The fact that you are using Focal should not prevent you from using gregorio, but you will get an older version. Do consider switching to Jammy, or building the latest version of TexLive.

You are talking about Gregorio's contrib folder missing, but what behavior do you actually experience? In order to separate the variables, you should probably test-build some files using lualatex in CLI, before attempting Scribus integration (for which I have no experience whatsoever).

In Christo,
M

Thank you for your response.

I installed texlive-full, but the most up-to-date version with apt-get is from 2019.

What is Jammy? I also wouldn't know how to build the latest version of TexLive on Ubuntu.

The behavior that I am experiencing is that I cannot use Gregorio within Scribus. When I add a "cadre de rendu", I can use LaTeX, but Gregorio itself does not show up in the program list. From what I gather, having looked at Gregorio's website, it needs to show up.

"you should probably test-build some files using lualatex in CLI"
I am new to LaTeX, as I said, so I don't know how to build files with Lualatex.

Hello,

If you are available tonight via audio or video call, I'd be happy to attempt to get you started. We really need to go through CLI steps to get down to the bottom of this, but my instinct tells me that an empty contrib folder is not the problem.

In Christo,
Matthias
