Context

"Cinema is a matter of what's in the frame and what's out." ------ Martin Scorsese

The National Conference on Psychology & Cinema -"Exploring the psyche on and off screen…." has been conceptualized to approach films as a narrative, which provides an understanding of the experience of 'Cinema'. Cinema, an intriguing text of human behaviour dynamics, mirrors the social milieu in which it is born. It is, therefore, a compelling need for psychologists to approach Cinema, not just as entertainment, but also as a powerful tool or medium for psycho- social analysis, research and practice. Thus, the conference will open an avenue for interaction with a interdisciplinary academia, helping us to understand the fascination of generations of people with cinema, and also the implication of Cinema in Psychology.

Objectives

q       To bring to the forefront the relationship between Psychology and Cinema.

q       To approach Cinema as a text for analyzing human behaviour.

q       To provide an interdisciplinary platform to discuss Cinema.

"There are more ideas on earth than intellectuals imagine. And these ideas are more active, stronger, more resistant, more passionate than ''politicians'' think. We have to be there at the birth of ideas, the bursting outward of their force: not in books expressing them, but in events manifesting this force, in struggles carried on around ideas, for or against them. Ideas do not rule the world. But it is because the world has ideas... that it is not passively ruled by those who are its leaders or those who would like to teach it, once and for all, what it must think" - Foucault
