The list of those who are complicit in this humongous crime -- against Indian democracy and Indian people, the marginalised and the targeted ones in particular -- is truly mind-boggling.

Evidently, the case of West Bengal was the way most egregious.

In West Bengal 27 lakh voters, who had already been "mapped" -- in terms of the 2002 voters list -- got dropped on the plea of "logical discrepancies". A category which was just not there even in Bihar. And these "discrepancies" have nothing to do with the eligibility to vote, let alone "citizenship" status . Just to loot the poll -- in broad daylight.
All (or at least almost all) these 27 lakh plus another 7 lakh deleted in the draft list (a la Bihar) could somehow manage to rush to the 19 tribunals formed to review their cases -- obviously with a bunch of papers. Despite the time window available being unreasonably narrow.
About 1600 cases have been reviewed. Almost all, with very few exceptions, have been cleared.
When asked to provisionally allow those before the tribunals to vote, the bench flatly refused. Prefaced the judgement with some pious pronouncements instead.
In fact, one member of the bench had earlier in effect observed why make so much fuss if one misses one chance to vote? Isn't there always a next time?

The SIR is of course not exclusively for Bengal. It's for the whole of the country to disenfrancise in bulk -- the marginalised and the specially targeted ones in particular.
And many of them would now be targeted for stripping of their citizenship. The SIR has set the ball rolling
The ECI, as per yesterday's judgement, must, within four weeks, refer all cases of voters deleted from the 2003 electoral roll on citizenship grounds to the competent authority under the Citizenship Act, 1955. (One positive offshoot would be that, in Bihar, we'd hopefully come to know how many actually got disenfrancised on the specific ground of citizenship. And this same pattern has got to be followed in the cases of other states too? The saving grace is that pending final determination, a deleted one would continue to be deemed a citizen.)
