The
case relates to a 22 year old young woman, daughter of CPI(M)
functionaries, herself an office-bearer at DYFI. She got into a
relationship with a colleague in DYFI. previously married and going
through a divorce. Most significantly, the male partner is a Dalit. They
began to live together and had a baby, a boy. The maternal grandparents
of the baby, got hold of him and put him up for adoption, wth the help
of officials in the government.
Local officials have ignored Brinda Karat's appeal that the baby be restored to his parents.
The mother is on protest in front of the Kerala Secretariat demanding her baby back, and action against the concerned officials.
This is "honour" adoption. In Kerala.
