Nuclear energy is not clean energy. The mining, milling and enrichment of uranium into nuclear fuel are extremely energy-intensive and result in the emission of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere from the burning of fossil fuels. Thermal pollution from nuclear power plants adversely affects marine ecosystems. The nuclear power industry has amassed hundreds of thousands of tons of radioactive waste. There is no known way to safely dispose of this waste, which remains dangerously radioactive for a quarter of a million years. The insurance industry does insure against nuclear power plant accidents. Nuclear energy is expensive. It is propped up by huge government subsidies.

Chairman Atomic Energy Commission, K Mohanty along with Dr Anil Kakodkar  declared Government of India's
objective to achieve 100 GW  nuclear power by 2047 and released their report "Synchronising energy Transitions towards --affordable and clean energy for all."
This report was funded by Principal  Scientific Advisor to Government of India.
