•The Ministry of Home Affairs has approved the deployment of 480 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) for the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, following communication from the Election Commission of India dated 20 February 2026.
•The forces will be deployed in two phases:
•240 companies by 1 March 2026
•240 companies by 10 March 2026
•Forces include CRPF, BSF, CISF, ITBP and SSB.
•Deployment purposes: area domination, confidence-building measures, poll-day duties, security of EVMs/strong rooms, and counting centres.
•CRPF will coordinate the movement and deployment of forces.
•In each company, 8 sections will be deployed at polling stations and other duties, while 1 section will remain for Quick Reaction Team (QRT) and supervisory duties.
•Each company must have a minimum of 72 personnel.
•The State Government has been asked to arrange transportation, logistics and accommodation.
