[<<Eastern India and Bangladesh have seen unprecedented damage of livelihood, land and life. In India, Supercyclone Amphan is yet to be declared a national disaster. Moreover, the Sunderbans--a unique ecosystem that has been under threat in the last many years from undesirable economic development--is severely damaged in the face of supercyclone Amphan. Since yesterday, we have been compiling a list of relief organizations we could send money to from the US. We also wanted to collect news and images about #supercycloneAmphan given the national silence and apathy. It is important to do the latter especially because documentation is vital, both politically and to bring this to national and international notice. I shudder to say "preserve historical memory"-- in 2020 we are still struggling to understand the devastation of the 1940s, Bengal Famine, World War II and the Partition. All these years later human genocide and death is still debated in terms of Hindus and Muslims: who did what to whom?>>
