The (massive and brutal) invasion of Ukraine has, almost instantaneously, inaugurated a New Cold War, that's not strictly "cold" - right at this moment.
The world today - its economy and production systems, is much more integrated today than it had been three decades earlier.

The War, hence, cannot but very deeply impact the lives of people - anywhere and everywhere on the globe, by triggering serious disruptions.
Quite possibly, for some much more than for some others.
But, perhaps, most significantly, the prospects of a meaningful collective global action - never too bright, to stave off the worst effects of the ongoing, and accelerating, process of climate change would be severely undermined now - leading to a huge disaster. (Assuming no nuclear apocalypse in the meanwhile.)

Unlike in the earlier case, the ideological divide between the (emergent) two warring camps is much less distinct.
Those upholding the banner of "democracy" have long patronised, and even actively promoted, authoritarian regimes, as and when it suits them.
And those who'd cry hoarse some version of "anti-imperialsm" are expressing themselves in terms of a blatant im perial aggression.
Not that even earlier the moral divide was all too clean, nonetheless there were two competing visions of world - at least notionally.
