I saw the recent report out of NC on jobs in the recycling industry. Does anyone know of any other recent studies on recycling jobs (other than NERC's)?  I'm interested in job growth (or decline), projections of future jobs, job training needs, etc.

Thanks

GAIA is releasing latest Jobs Thru Recycling Report in a couple of weeks. See Monica Wilson or Ananda Lee Tan.

Container Recycling Institute is working on another Jobs Thru Recycling Report. See Susan Collins.

In CA. State developed overall Green Jobs Report last year. 25% were from recycling.

Hi Amy,
Not a study, but It's been less than two years since the New York bottle bill expansion was put in effect, and over 244 new redemption centers have opened.

  • The number of registered redemption centers which take back empty containers grew by 113 in 2009 and an additional 131 as of October 2010.  Many of these small businesses have been able to expand and increase their employees’ wages and benefits.

Hi Amy,

The state of Illinois recently did a jobs/economic impact report too
that has some information on how the sector changed since their last
report. You can find it at http://www.illinoisrecycles.org/pdffiles/2010Study.pdf.
