Climate Change Awareness and Action & Dewitt Advisory Conservation Commission hosts “Sun Day” Sept. 21 to Celebrate Clean Energy RevolutionFrom Coast to Coast: Thousands Unite to Demonstrate that Renewable Energy is Ready Now
Fayetteville, New York – On Sunday, September 21, from 2:00 - 5:00pm at Cedar Bay Park on Cedar Bay Road CCAA and DACC will participate in Sun Day, a groundbreaking nationwide event that marks a pivotal moment in America's clean energy transformation.
As part of this national movement, CCAA & DACC will host a party at Cedar Bay Park with music, ice cream, community speakers & information tables to demonstrate the readiness of renewable energy solutions. The day will demonstrate that renewable energy isn’t a far-off dream, but is instead an immediate, practical solution to our current energy challenges that will bring down costs and improve reliability.
* Key highlights of our Sun Day event include:
* Music by Colleen Kattau and the Unity Street Band
* Complimentary ice cream
* Sara Bollinger to speak about zoning changes needed to accommodate solar & wind technologies in the Town of Manlius
* Town of Dewitt to speak about the Dewitt Solar array
* Presentation by Nickels Energy Solutions a local solar installation company feaured in the Sunday Post Standard
* Information booths regarding residential and community solar & uses of solar such as charging cars etc.
“In the Town of Dewitt and the Town of Manlius, we're already seeing the incredible potential of clean energy with solar arrays on retired land fill sites,” said Sonia Kragh, CCAA board member.
“CCAA and DACC have been at the forefront of promoting the energy transition through ongoing presentations and events” said Soni Kragh, “we are showing that solar and wind aren’t just the future, they’re powering the present.”
Founded by renowned environmental activist Bill McKibben, this natioal celebration will feature hundreds of events across all 50 states focusing on the most significant energy revolution of our time.
"For decades we've called this stuff 'alternative energy.' We want to drive home the point that that's not true anymore--this is the straightforward, common-sense, obvious way to power our future, the cheapest way to drive down electric prices, the easiest way to build a working America," said Bill McKibben, the driving force behind Sun Day and a pioneering voice in the climate movement. McKibben, co-founder of 350.org and a leading environmental author, whose recent book “Here Comes the Sun: A Last Chance for the Climate and a Fresh Chance for Civilization” has been instrumental in bringing global attention to climate change and the potential of renewable energy.
The event is part of a larger national movement demonstrating that clean energy technologies are affordable, reliable, and ready to deploy at scale. According to Sun Day organizers, the United States added 50 gigawatts of solar power to the grid in 2024 – the most any energy source has added in two decades – enough to power 8.5 million homes.
Sun Day, www.sunday.earth aims to push back against fossil fuel industry disinformation and lobbying and demonstrate the existing overwhelming public support for accelerating the transition to renewable energy. The movement emphasizes that the biggest barrier to clean energy is political, not technological.
