This follows the passage of NSAC sponsored SB 343 (Sen. Ben Allen) for truth in recycling labeling, AB 818 (Asm. Richard Bloom) for truth in "flushable" wipes labeling, and AB 707 (Dr. Bill Quirk) to improve the mercury thermostat EPR program and create a $30 bounty, all in 2021. The National Stewardship Action Council (NSAC) has done it again! All three of our sponsored bills were signed into law by Governor Gavin Newsom: AB 2208 (Asm. Ash Kalra & Sen. Josh Becker): CA’s Mercury Pollution Prevention Act - banning sale of mercury-containing lighting by 2025. Building on Vermont’s bill, California now leads the nation with the most comprehensive mercury lighting sales ban. Read the press release. AB 1894 (Asm. Luz Rivas & Asm. Cottie Petrie-Norris): Cannabis Vape Marketing for Safe Disposal Act - prevents marketing of vapes as “disposable” and instead must be marketed as hazardous waste. Read the press release. AB 1793 (Asm. Dr. Bill Quirk): Aquatic Toxicity Testing - requires the state to assess and consider replacing the aquatic toxicity test with the computational test to determine the toxicity which will eliminate the unnecessary incineration of non-toxic products.
