In reading through this rescue plan, why is NRC still intent on moving (selling) ARD to KAB?  If they are so intent on selling it (which means there is perceived value) why don't they unlock that "value" and monetize it for the good of NRC.  As I've said in past (perhaps not to everyone on this list..), there is a potential email database containing hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of recyclers that have pledged support during ARD over the years.  Actually giving them something tangible via an electronic newsletter or periodic "e-communications" that have sponsorship and/or affiliate programs to NRC business partners has the potential to raise a significant amount of revenue for the organization.

Based on what I've heard from web-based marketing people I know you can anticipate a 1% "buy" rate on an affiliate program.  If there are 500,000 people on the list, that would mean a potential 5,000 transactions each time a communication is sent.  If each person spent $20.00 and your affiliate share was 5%, that would mean a potential $5,000 for each newsletter, equalling $260K/year for a weekly newsletter.  There are affiliate programs that pay more than 5%.  Sponsorship is a whole different ball game.  Selling ad space on sections of the newsletter template could provide even greater revenue.

It seems to me that this would be a much easier way to "rescue" the NRC and provide some significant unrestricted funding that they could use for any projects that come up outside of the pledged dollars allocated to specific programs.

Just a rant/thought...

Hi,

It makes sense for NRC to sell ARD to KAB.  KAB is good at publicity and at raising corporate funds for their publicity programs.  Many KAB affiliates operate ARD programs in their communities so this makes even more sense.

ARD has never generated a lot of funding for NRC and there is no reason to believe that NRC will get better at raising funds.

It is all well and good to talk about people contributing small amounts of money through ARD, but that has never happened before and I do not think it will happen now, especially in a tight economy.  Also, it costs money to raise those small donations which eats into the "profit" margin.

I think, that given NRC's debt load, it makes sense to try to get some capital for ARD and use that to buy down the debt and help get the organization back on its feet.

Has there been a rescue plan released for review?  Or maybe within select listservs?  If available, I would like to see it.
