Oh Resourceful Ones….

Any idea on what we can do with this?  These are from Track and Field programs and this one in particular is from a high jump/pole vault.  These are big foam pads with a nylon cover that last 5-10 years and now we have one at the University of Oregon that we no longer have a market for….

Top pad of a high jump pit-like a douvet cover, zippered with 1” foam 25’ X 15’, envelope is nylon synthetic mesh, you can see through it and holds the foam.

I have one of these that has worn out foam.  They want a new one and want to recycle the cover.

Any ideas out there???

PS These are common at colleges and also track/field facilities.  Seems like there’d be something to do with this material.

(Maybe some company would use it for liner material on something?).

Thanks for thinking outside the box!

Try the folks at BRiNG Recycling, 4446 Franklin Blvd in Eugene.  They have a reuse sales business and if they can’t sell it, they may know of people who might want it.  Reusers get lots of unusual kinds of inquiries.  Awhile ago Urban Ore had four giant balloons that could carry passenger gondolas.  And people bought them!

Here in Massachusetts Conigliaro Industries www.conigliaro.com removes the polyurethane foam from mattresses and upholstered furniture, but I don't know who they market it to. If I remember correctly it is used in products such as carpet padding and automobile dashboards. . I seem to remember there is a mattress recycler in your area, you could contact them and find out where they ship their foam.

Good idea.  The mattress recycler also comes from Eugene.  The organization is St. Vincent de Paul of Eugene, headed by Terry McDonald, one of the nonprofit world’s major entrepreneurs.  St. Vinnie’s has expanded its mattress recovery through a lot of California because Terry is all about logistics.

And the winner is BRING Recycling.  Thanks Mary Lou, I was missing this and it was right in front of my face!  Thanks for the reminder.  We used to be able to recover stuff like this through recycling but no more so it is great that BRING will take this and find a good reuse home for it.

Thanks everyone, so excited we have such a great network and expansive reuse opportunities.  Everywhere I go where I see great zero waste practices, I just know all of you had something to do with that!

Thanks!

Happy reusing!
