Here at the City of Albuquerque, the city collects the residential trash and recycling with automated sideloaders. The trucks we use occasionally do double duty and an empty truck will work interchangeably on a trash route or a recycle route. Having these trucks to back up the fleet of assigned route trucks really cuts down on the number of back up trucks we need, as well as being efficient in stocking maintenance parts, etc. We feel it is important that the public be aware that yes, a recycling truck is picking up their recycling. We have used several different designs to denote whether the truck is working as a trash truck or a recycling truck: frames with removable corrugated plastic signs and a fabricated hinged flip sign (similar to a DOT placard). They each have their shortcomings. Does anyone have any experience with innovative truck signage? The recycling trucks that are not designated as backup trucks are wrapped with recycling messages, but as the wraps are permanent, these cannot be assigned a trash route.

Thanks!

Hi Jill

There is a write up about electronic paper truck displays for truck that you can consider

There is a video here that shows how it will turn out;

The pros and cons you have to take note of can be read off this link:

Here are the cons extracted:
There are definitely challenges with extreme temperature and weather issues, such as high winds, snow and rain, as well as dust, moisture, and extreme sunlight.
Regulatory issues could pose a problem. Be sure to double check in your area before investing.
High upfront costs could be a problem for small to mid-sized companies.

If you subscribe to https://www.trendhunter.com/, you will find lots of innovative ideas there that may inspire you to invent your own.

All the best.

Hi Jill,

Suggest connecting with City of Phoenix folks as they are running a variety of signs on trucks and the messages are very clear when you see their trucks.

Let me know how else we can be of assistance.
