The Center for Biological Diversity’s Simplify the Holidays campaign is customizable for any community, team, or project. We’ve created sustainable gift guides, tips on how to start a conversation about alternative gift-giving, and resources for transforming holidays from a period of stress and shopping to a time of joy, connection, and tradition. Simplify the holidays to save money, strengthen local economies, reduce waste, and protect wildlife habitat. Feel free to use our material in newsletters, radio and TV ads, waste guides, podcasts, blog posts, presentations, or community events.  

This year we’re excited to offer our second annual pre-holiday season webinar and a new social media toolkit as fresh additions to our winter holiday planning resources.

Resources to Simplify the Holidays

1. Attend our upcoming webinar. The Center for Biological Diversity is hosting a webinar on Tuesday Sept. 29 at 1 p.m. PT / 4 p.m. ET with partners across the country who are creatively tackling holiday consumerism. Register here to learn how you can bring this campaign to your community.
2. Simplify the holidays on social media. We’re excited to share our new Simplify the Holidays social media toolkit dedicated to reclaiming holidays and celebrations from capitalism and consumerism. Share our updated holiday graphics. 
3. Celebrate Secondhand Sunday. Help us make secondhand your community’s first choice this holiday season by promoting Secondhand Sunday the weekend after Thanksgiving instead of Black Friday. Check out our Linktree for new secondhand shopping resources. 
4. Promote making a wishlist with SoKind. SoKind is a wishlist platform that makes it easy to give and receive homemade gifts, secondhand items, gifts of experience or time, and charitable donations. Create a SoKind wishlist. 
5. Ask your local government to approve a sustainable winter holidays resolution. Ask your elected officials to express a consensus this holiday season to foster greater joy, connection, and tradition while reducing waste, stress, and environmental harm.  Download our sample resolution.
6. Cultivate sharing forums — like libraries of things — to help people entertain sustainably. Help your community make entertaining easy by encouraging them to borrow and share specialty cookware and appliances instead of buying them. See our Simpler Entertaining site for more ideas.
