Hi.
Just a little update on the Greenwood Streetscapes Project...
Our consultants and volunteer professionals are planning to start working with 4 blocks to take the next step with their neighbors toward visioning the possibilities for their streets which for now we’re calling Block Studies.
We’re getting the block maps ready for them now. They are:
Block Studies
Once we have the maps and the groups scheduled, we’ll be facilitating work sessions to learn more about those blocks and to help them understand their street and the possibilities for streetscapes. Please note that these are just the ones we’re getting going on right now. More blocks can get on board for the step those 4 are taking whenever they’re ready. It’s never too late to get started. Just one person can get the ball rolling toward organizing their block, learning about this project, and connecting with professionals who can help you from there.
In addition to the emergence of those 4 blocks, from the analysis of the whole study area over the last few months an array of blocks and corridors stand out as segments that would be useful to study from a neighborhood perspective as well as a local block perspective. They include blocks that have been discussed many times over the years and we have groups of advocates on nearly all of them. We will see if we can get some more momentum going to get a Block Study going for them. They are:
Being able to walk safely on 90th with the relatively heavy traffic and being able to cross 3rd Ave NW safely are recurrent themes with many of those blocks and seeing what the Green Street designation of our neighborhood plan might look like is a possible topic for 1st Ave NW.
Likewise, the following areas of the neighborhood jump out in the big picture field work as places where we might want to take a slightly larger planning view and talk about them as a community in order to perhaps approach them as special character areas with lots of interesting streetscape potential.
Character Area Studies
We’re going to get some nice maps made of these areas so that it’s easier to talk about them and work with them.
Also, we’re putting together some information next week that you’ll be able to distribute if you’re having a block party on Night Out, Tuesday August 3rd and we’re looking forward to showing you our first 2 videos (from film shot at the Open House in May) perhaps as early as next week.
Please note that Thursdays from 4pm – 8pm are a drop-in time when anyone can stop at the Neighborhood Service Center (next door to Romeo’s) to find out more, take next steps, or just get a simple question answered in person.
Thanks for your interest in the Greenwood Streetscapes Project.
