The citywide Seattle Neighborhood Greenways group is exploring the idea of creating "Bike Lines," aka branded bike routes that are marked on the street (think Rapid Ride lines but for bikes, or London's cycle superhighways).

There are a number of different ways to approach this idea, with different scales, purposes, opportunities, and challenges.

If this idea is intriguing to you, please join us on Friday, April 4th at noon by Google Meet to talk through some of the options. Please let me know if you are interested and I'll send you the meeting link.

WSDOT is developing a similar concept called Cycle Highways and produced a phase 1 action plan that’s available for public review/comment until April 7:

The legislative purpose of cycle highways is for them to connect between and within population centers and support mode shift.

The next step would be to establish a cycle highways program with funding to support projects. I believe the senate new revenue transportation budget included some money for this but don’t 100% quote me on this.
