Seattle is Failing to Reimagine Aurora
This week The
Urbanist published an op-ed written by our coalition analyzing the Seattle Department of Transportation’s recently released Phase 1 report for the Aurora Avenue Project. In the piece, we raise concerns that SDOT is failing to take bold steps
toward creating a safer, more equitable, and people-centered corridor.

Mayoral and Council Candidates' Visions for Aurora
We recently hosted a walk with candidates and elected officials along Aurora starting at N 39 Street and ending at BF Day elementary school. We asked candidates to provide their visions for Aurora Avenue. We received the following statements from candidates
and have posted them on our blog. Be sure to vote by August 5 for the primary.

The E-Line is Given 24/7 Priority
The Aurora Reimagined Coalition joined city officials and other community groups to celebrate the 24/7 bus lanes on Aurora. This simple change means more reliability for the E-Line, will help existing riders dependably get to where they need to go and will
help quickly bring in new riders.

Donate to the Aurora Reimagined Coalition
We are an all-volunteer, grassroots effort that has operated for the past four years with zero financial support. We recently set up a fiscal sponsor relationship with Seattle Neighborhood Greenways so that we can receive small donations to keep the Coalition
running. A $5 donation will help cover the costs of the Coalition website, our awesome URL, and the signage and printing used during events. Most importantly, your donation sends a message that you believe in a better Aurora that works for everyone.

Debora Juarez appointed to vacant D5 council seat
Following D5 Council Member Cathy Moore's resignation in early July, the council opened a citywide search and considered a short list of candidates for the vacant seat. Former council member and council President Debora Juarez won the position in a 7-1 vote.
Read more here.
During her time in office, Council Member Juarez was a firm champion for D5 and is well aware of the issues facing Aurora. The Aurora Reimagined Coalition looks forward to working with Council Member Juarez once again to advance a bold vision for the Aurora
corridor and the coordinated improvements in the north end communities that are affected by Aurora.

Supporting a Neighborhood Center at 125th & Greenwood
The city has a bad habit of allowing dense housing only along arterials. This is inherently unsafe, unhealthy, and inequitable. The Aurora Reimagined Coalition supports adding housing along Aurora
in addition to other other parts of the city.
Join a short discussion with Councilmembers and city leadership about adding a Neighborhood Center around Greenwood and 125th. This is one of eight proposed neighborhood centers that the Complete Communities Coalition is advocating for.
Saturday, August 9th at 10am
Broadview Library meeting room
If you are interested in joining and want more information, go to the
CCC
website, check out the list
of all eight centers, and fill out
this
form to get plugged in!

Woodland Park Zoo's 20-year Plan
Woodland Park Zoo and Park straddle Aurora, yet there is no E-Line stop near the Zoo or an eastern entrance accessible from Aurora. The Zoo is asking for community input as they plan their next 20 years in North Seattle.
Wouldn’t it be great if there were an E-Line stop at 50th & Aurora, integrated with an east entrance to the Zoo?
