Hi Neighbors,

We have scheduled work to redesign N 130th St between Stone Ave N and 1st Ave NE for Saturday, April 26 and Sunday, April 27. The new street design will have 1 vehicle lane in each direction, a center turn lane, and new protected bike lanes that people on scooters can use too. Click here to view the new street design and learn more about the project on our website.

What to expect during construction

  • Working hours from 8 AM to 5 PM on Saturday, April 26 and Sunday, April 27. You may see crews gathering and preparing for work before 8 AM on each day.
  • Removal of existing lane markings and installation of new lane markings between Stone Ave N and 1st Ave NE. You may experience noise and vibrations from equipment during working hours.
  • 1 vehicle lane in each direction will remain open during work with flaggers and uniformed police officers on-site to direct traffic
  • Closure of driveways on N 130th St for up to 20 minutes to allow the lane markings to dry
  • Materials and equipment stored in the area starting as soon as Thursday, April 24 and overnight on Saturday, April 26
  • No changes to bus service but you may experience minor delays

Project overview

We’re redesigning N 130th St from Stone Ave N to 1st Ave NE to improve safety as part of our Vision Zero commitment to ending traffic deaths and serious crashes. The new street design also supports access to Sound Transit’s future Pinehurst Light Rail Station and King County Metro's Route 77, both starting service in 2026.

The new street design includes:

  • Redesigned street from 4 lanes to 3 lanes with 1 vehicle lane in each direction and a center turn lane to improve safety
  • Protected bike lanes on both sides of the street to improve safety and connections for people on bikes and scooters
  • Protected left turns at Meridian Ave N, Ashworth Ave N, and Stone Ave N to improve turning operations and safety through these intersections
  • Reduced speed limit from 30 mph to 25 mph to improve safety for all users
  • ‘No Turn On Red’ restrictions at 1st Ave NE, Meridian Ave N, Ashworth Ave N, and Stone Ave N to improve safety

Best,

Drue Nyenhuis

SDOT installed a protected cycle lane on N 130th to the east of Stone Way N as of this afternoon. I didn't check, but I'd assume it will go all the way east to 1st Ave NE. The westbound cycle lane was yet to be installed, but it was marked so It should be installed soon (tomorrow, I assume).

One major setback I see is that the cycle lane is separated by flex posts, as opposed to the concrete barriers SDOT is planning on using for the NE 130th/125th corridor safety improvement project.
