Subject: Another UPDATE - Outreach for our Resistance Lab Project

Hey Resistance Lab Team:

Jean has created a post on the “Now and Then” blog to try to get as many participants as possible to show up for the Social Security photo shoot on Sunday.  Please share this link with friends, family and on any social media you happen to be connected with.

Cheers,
John

UPDATE:
We now have a location, date and time for the photo shoot!

Location:  Alaska Building 618 2nd Avenue
Date:     Sunday April 13
Time: 2:00 PM
Note: Bring your Social Security Card

Marcia asked whether we should use a specific subject line for the email for the “What Social Security Means to Me” essays.  I think that is a great idea

Let’s make the subject line “What Social Security Means To Me”.

Please send your submissions to:

Jean Sherrard

Although the newspaper copy will be using only snippets of your essay, Jean plans to post all of them, in their entirety, on his “Seattle Now and Then” blog.

Please try to recruit friends and family for the photo shoot.  Jean’s goal is to have at least ’dozens’ of people in the photo.

Thanks for showing up!
John

Update on the project we sketched out in our breakout session on Sunday:

Jean just reported that he has a green light from his editor for the ’Then and Now’ column on Social Security.  He is hot on the trail of details for location of the first Social Security office in Seattle.  The plan is to get the ’Then’ photo of that location and pair it with a ’Now’ group photo of as many people as possible in that same location with each person holding their Social Security card.

Action Items:

- Show up for the photo shoot
Jean would like to have all of the people from our watch party be in the photo if possible.
- Recruit family and/or friends for the photo shoot
What would be even better than just bringing yourself to the photo shoot would be if we could all bring as many friends and family as we can rustle up.
- Write a short testimonial
Jean is requesting that each person write a short testimonial about what the institution of Social Security means to you
(and/or a loved one or society in general…), why you feel it is important, etc .  It doesn’t need to be a long essay - he will be picking out a sentence here or a phrase there to sprinkle into the article.  The more personal the story is the better.

Time Frame (SHORT):
SOON: Jean plans to publish the piece in 2 weeks.  We don’t yet know the location or date/time of the photo shoot but will provide that info as soon as available.
NOW:   It is not too soon to start thinking about/writing your testimonial today.
NOW:   It is also not too soon to recruit other people for the photo shoot

Thanks,
John
