Hello NW Greenways Members!
Summer 2025 is nearly complete and we're here to share recent news and upcoming events with all of you.
August was an exciting month for our community! Thanks to the dedication of nearly 40 volunteers at each location, we completed two new street murals at Linden Ave N / N 96th St and Phinney Ave N / N 92nd–95th St, as well as a refreshing of the original Evanston P-Patch mural. Looking ahead, we have several ways to stay involved: join us at our September 4 monthly meeting to celebrate the murals and plan upcoming events, help shape PARK(ing) Day on September 19, or commit to Week Without Driving from September 29–October 5.
NE GREENWOOD HOMEZONE STREET MURALS
Over the weekend of August 16–17, our community came together to create two new street murals and refresh the original Evanston P-Patch mural. The new murals feature a fish pond at Linden Ave N / N 96th St and an extension of the flower vine at Phinney Ave N / N 92nd–95th St, continuing the design south from Phinney/90–92. Nearly 40 volunteers showed up at each location, contributing over 240 hours of painting!
Street murals do more than brighten our neighborhoods, they support safe routes, encourage slower traffic, and create a sense of community pride. A heartfelt thank you to Sarah Phillips, local artist and art teacher, for designing the murals and guiding volunteers. Shout outs to our site leads: Rachel Reed (Linden/96th), Todd Mitchell & Ursula Valdez (Evanston P-Patch), and Judy Kelly (Phinney/92nd–95th). Additional thanks to Rachel for managing the Seattle Department of Neighborhoods grant paperwork.
We hope you get a chance to visit the murals soon if you haven't already.
Check out our website to a few photos of the event.
SEATTLE NEIGHBORHOOD GREENWAYS BRAND UPDATE
Our partners at
Seattle Neighborhood Greenways are refreshing their brand and they would like community input. SNG is proposing to change their name to "Seattle Streets Alliance" with the brand update to better reflect the group mission and values.
As a participating neighborhood group of SNG, NW Greenways along with other groups will have the option to adopt the new branding if they wish. A coalition vote on the rebrand is scheduled for the September SNG meeting. Should the vote pass, the goal is an early 2026 rollout.
Please take some time to review the slides and
provide feedback to us via email or at our next community meeting.
