Hello NW Greenways Members!
We're here to share recent news and upcoming events with all of you.
You can expect to receive these newsletter emails monthly. We'll aim to send them the week after the monthly meetings which happen on the first Thursday of the month.
September is always an exciting time with students going back to school and many of us starting new activities. Looking ahead, we have several ways to stay involved: Commit to Week Without Driving from September 29–October 5, or volunteer with Viewlands Elementary for Walk, Bike, & Roll to school day on October 8, or volunteer with the Viewlands weekly bike bus program. Mark your calendars for our October monthly meeting (10/2) to plan upcoming events and discuss advocacy work. Continue reading for more details.

PARK(ing) Day - Friday, September 19 🅿️ 💐
Every year on the third Friday of September, communities around the world celebrate
PARK(ing) Day, temporarily transforming parking spaces into vibrant “people spaces.” In Seattle, these pop-up parks can include seating, greenery, art, and even space to enjoy a coffee or chat with friends!
This year, NW Greenways will
not be planning anything, but we can start planning next year's event anytime so please reach out to
nwgre...@gmail.com if you are interested in supporting this in the future! As an alternative, you can visit the
Shoreline Park(ing) Day on September 19, from 3-7pm, in Ridgecrest to see what it's all about.
Week Without Driving from September 29–October 5 🚌 🚲 🚶
As a community we would like to invite everyone to participate in
"Week Without Driving" September 29-October 5 where we commit to a week without driving with other NWG community members. This started in Seattle in 2021 and has since spread across the nation.
We are looking for a volunteer to help organize a celebration event this week, possibly to land on Thursday, October 2, during the NWG monthly meeting.
Reach out to nwgre...@gmail.com if you are interested in supporting this or know a business that might be!
Viewlands Elementary: Volunteer for Walk, Bike, & Roll to School Day 🚶🚲 🛼 - Wednesday, October 8
Support Viewlands Elementary bi-annual Walk, Bike, & Roll to School Day on October 8, from 7-8am. Many volunteers are needed to support walking and biking groups, as well as a celebration table at school. If you think you can support this fun day for local students, please reach out to Sam Orr at
bik...@viewlandsptsa.org.
Viewlands Elementary: Volunteer with Weekly Bike Bus 🚲
Do you have 30 minutes to spare every Wednesday morning before 8am? Viewlands Elementary hosts a morning bike bus every week that needs adult volunteers. There are two routes: The
north route starts at
Fremont Ave N / N 100th St and the
south route starts at the north end of
Sandel Park. Both routes gather around 7:30am and depart around 7:35am, with students arriving to school by 7:45am. Research shows that students who walk or bike to school are more attentive and enjoy learning more. Support student success with a weekly gift of your time! Reach out to Sam Orr at
bik...@viewlandsptsa.org with any questions about volunteering or riding with us.

[REMINDER] SEATTLE NEIGHBORHOOD GREENWAYS BRAND UPDATE
Our partners at
Seattle Neighborhood Greenways are refreshing their brand and they would like community input. SNG is proposing to change their name to "Seattle Streets Alliance" with the brand update to better reflect the group mission and values. As a participating neighborhood group of SNG, NW Greenways along with other groups will have the option to adopt the new branding if they wish. A coalition vote on the rebrand is scheduled for the September SNG meeting. Should the vote pass, the goal is an early 2026 rollout. The rebranding slides are now
available for review here.
Please take some time to review the slides and
provide feedback to us via email within the next week.
