Hello NW Greenways Members!
We're here to share recent news and upcoming events with all of you.
🍂 The rain has officially settled in and November is here, a time for cozy layers, community, and connection. This month we’re spotlighting ways to give back and get involved: Support local food banks impacted by the recent government shutdown, join our advocacy team working on 3rd Ave NW and Roosevelt Way safety improvements, and explore volunteer opportunities with Safe Routes to School programs. We’re also looking ahead to December events, including our next monthly meeting on December 4 and the annual holiday lights bike ride! Continue reading for updates, resources, and opportunities to stay engaged with your NW Greenways community.

Neighborhood Resources
Food banks across Washington state need our help to support neighbors who have had their SNAP support disrupted during the government shutdown. The best way to support local food banks is with in-kind donations of healthy non-perishable foods, or with financial donations. Use the resources link below to see which food banks serve our area and please feel free to share this resource with those who need it.

Advocacy Work & Opportunities

3rd Ave NW Safety Improvements
NW Greenways submitted a list of 3rd Ave NW safety improvements to our partner Seattle Neighborhood Greenways to be considered as part of the City of Seattle budget updates. Continued advocacy work on 3rd Ave NW needs volunteer support. Are you interested in supporting this work? Reach out to nwgre...@gmail.com if you’re interested.
Roosevelt Way N / Pinehurst Station Access
Local design firm Fehr & Peers is doing pro bono work to help NW Greenways study and design proposed improvements to Roosevelt Way N to turn it into a traffic-calmed main street boulevard connecting to Pinehurst Station. There is an opportunity for advocacy volunteer(s) to take this planning work and connect with Council, Mayor and SDOT to fund the improvements before the station opens next year. Are you interested in supporting this work? Reach out to nwgre...@gmail.com if you’re interested.

SNG Rebranding update
After extensive collaboration, discussion, and a vote from the coalition and board, SNG has decided to transition to Seattle Streets Alliance this winter. This change reflects the organization’s evolving mission to create safer, more inclusive streets for everyone.
What this means for NW Greenways:
Neighborhood groups that decide to use the new branding will have resource support with website/email and bulk swag purchases before the official launch in Q1 2026.
Groups must decide whether to use the new branding by 12/15/25.
We plan to discuss the 12/15 decision at the December monthly meeting.
See Neighborhood Group Rebranding Guidance for all details.
Rails to Trails Documentary
Check out this PBS documentary "From Rails to Trails" about part of the trails movement which includes our local Interurban trail!
Edward Norton narrates the story of one of the most unlikely social movements in American history: the struggle to convert thousands of miles of abandoned railroads into trails for cycling and walking. Facing fierce opposition and legal challenges from private property owners, leaders fought to reclaim these corridors for the public, creating a national network of scenic, car-free paths.
