Hey GLV!
I want to wish everyone well with the Purgatory Road Race tomorrow. I've been hearing from a few of you about all the hard work everyone is pouring in. Based on a ridiculously good pre-reg (453 pre-registered racers!!) it seems like there's going to be a great event thrown down tomorrow.
I know all too well how much hard work it takes to put on that race, so I wanted to say thanks for continuing this event on, and good luck! Four years ago when I was rolling around Sutton on the bikes with my father, scoping out potential race routes, we saw Lackey Rd, looking up from the lake. He said, "There's no way you can send a race up that road." I said right then, "That's exactly what we are going to do." Well, a few cold mid-winter recon rides later, we had something very close to the current race course picked out. Almost the entire team was able to get out that winter for some tough training rides to test out potential race routes. It did a lot to bring the team together that winter. Riding that course gave me goosebumps. Kyle and I started meeting with the Town Selectmen and Police in Northbridge and Sutton. A lot of work was put in to design that race and start it up from scratch. I can't count the number of times I would wake up in the morning, and Mark and Kyle would be cooking up some bacon for breakfast, still hadn't had their morning coffee, and I was hitting Kyle with questions about what open actions needed to be nailed down for the event to go off smoothly. There was, and still is no rest for those guys running the event. The endless behind the scenes work that you guys are putting in doesn't get seen by all. But remember when you're tired and worn out after a long day of working registration or marshalling on the course - the racing that we all do week-in and week-out is made possible by people just like you. This race is GLV's chance to give back to the New England road racing scene. Do it up in style by throwing down the third edition of what has become the BEST road race in New England. It's something special to be a part of that, and you guys have all done a great job. Thanks for keeping GLV cranking guys!
Good luck tomorrow! Wish I could be out there with ya.
Best,
Keith
