We are pleased to advise that after years of preparation, and billions of dollars invested to modernize and expand our Port infrastructure, the new generation of Super Ultra Large Container Vessels (SULCVs) are about to begin service to our Port!
This new class of 14,000+ TEU capacity container vessels is more efficient, consumes less fuel, and is designed to be more environmentally friendly.
These large vessels will have a significant impact on the safety, navigation, and operations that are conducted in the Port, and a team of stakeholders, and maritime experts have designed a set of SULCV Operating Guidelines designed to keep our Port safe, efficient, open, and non-conflicted. These Guidelines have been previously distributed, and are available to be viewed on our MAPONY/NJ website found at www.nymaritime.org.
Although the first 14,000+ TEU capacity SULCV will enter the Port next week, it will be important to many stakeholders to be able to know when and where these SULCVs will be operating in the Port so as to properly plan, and coordinate their own maritime operations.
MAPONY/NJ will report all SULCV arrivals/departures approximately one week in advance. This report will advise such key data as ETA/ETD, vessel name, operator, agent, tug company, and berth. The report can be found on our MAPONY/NJ website under the heading SULVC Schedules.
We hope that this report proves useful to the Port Community, and we welcome any ideas/suggestions regarding how we might improve the report so as to satisfy stakeholder needs.
Regards,
Ed
