Hi Greening Davis Committee,

I wanted to make sure folks interested in hypothetically maintaining planters down Elm St. heard about the next Elmway meeting tomorrow, the 14th, from 6-8 PM at https://zoom.us/j/92768434708?pwd=xNlNnfd99xBkXsh1vCzObqsJvSbLBw.1.  It would especially help the Elmway Committee to hear about your conversations with Somerville Public Spaces staff to inform our changes and avoid duplicating your work.

Best,
Zachary Yaro

Zachary would like to meet to discuss the feedback we received on this project and changes we might want to make to it as a result. Unfortunately, our meeting room in the library is booked up. We have time available on Thursday night, 6-8pm, and I thought I'd ask people who want to attend if they'd prefer a Zoom-only, an in-person only at Life Alive, or some other solution?

Chris

Hey Zachary,

I don't know of any upcoming plans from the city but then I didn't know about the incoming planters until they arrived.  While I can't make the meeting on the 14th, I do expect to meet up with Luisa (who is in charge of the recent pop up space in the square) on Monday for adding plants to those new giant planters.  I'll ask her then if there's any other plans for greening up the area.

(Also as an aside any folks who are free Monday morning and want to help plant, please keep the morning open! I'll email the list as soon as I have a time frame for planting)

Best

Alyssa

Hello,

Alyssa - I can likely help on Monday morning. What time are you thinking?

Zachary - I don’t think I’ll make it to the meeting, but do you mind sharing one issue with the group, if you think it’s appropriate? Elaine, City Councilor Hart, and I recently met with the residents of Weston Manor since they are a demographic we don’t reach in normal DSNC outreach. The number one complaint we heard from elderly residents is about the seating at Mike’s. (They cared more about this than Copper Mill!) The outdoor tables and chairs are on the pavement, forcing the pedestrians to walk on uneven bricks. Several of them reported falling as a result. Can Elmway figure out who to talk to about this? Maybe Mikes could swap the table locations? Would the city let them? Keeping our elderly safe is important!

Thanks,
Louisa

Alyssa - I look forward to hearing anything Luisa can say about us getting permission to add additional planters farther along Elm!

Louisa - We can definitely talk about it and make a note to discuss it with Mobility whenever we are next able to connect with them.  My guess would be the only constraint on positioning the tables is keeping brick crosswalk clear where it connects the curb ramps.  At least as of earlier this week, the tables aren't nailed down, so if there is a place that would be ideal for another clear path across the slip lane, I am happy to help folks shift the tables over a meter or two.

Best,
Zachary Yaro

I can't help plant on Monday, but if any of it pushes later into the week, let me know.
