It is the folder from which BeeBEEP loads its resource files:beebeep.rc configuration file, translations, plugins, default beep file (beep.wav) and other libraries. It is usually the same folder where the BeeBEEP executable is present. In unix systems the following folders will also be checked:
[IMPORTANT] If the value of an option in the beebeep.rc file is a string containing a period, comma or other type of punctuation, you must enclose the string in two quotation marks ".
For example:
It is the folder where BeeBEEP stores the data of the user who is using it as theconfiguration file (beebeep.ini), the log file(beebeep.log - only with option "Log to file" checked),the encoded file of sent messages (beebeep.dat)and that of unsent messages (beebeep.off).
Inside, there is also the cache folder with all the temporary files.
It can also be used as a resource folder for more customized configurations.
Open the BeeBEEP log to see the search order that is executed to load configuration, translation files and plugins.
You can see what is the data folder in the BeeBEEP menuMain -Open your data folder...
If you want to know if your message has been read (in theory only displayed) by the recipient, move the arrow with the mouse on his avatar in the chat window and wait for the tooltip to be shown. The tooltip will show the message "User has not read last messages" if the recipient has not yet opened the chat window with you.
With these options you tell BeeBEEP that the user cannot create "private chats" and "group chats"but can only chat with all users (so you can always see when they write).
This file beebeep.rc must be copied to all BeeBEEP installation folders (where the beebeep.exe file is located) where you want these options to be enabled.
You can create predefined messages that can be recalled with a simple click.
In the chat window, near the icon of the emoticons, there is a letter icon.
A new window with an empty list is showed and you can add all preset messages you want to.
Just right click on the empty list and create new one.
Yes, you can. First of all, the user who left has to open the menu optionSettings -Chats -Blocked chats...and removes the group from the blocked list. After this operation, he/she can be added again as member.
Some time ago I would have told you no, but from version 5.7.5, yes it is possibleand below I'll explain you why I made this decision.
To disable encryption you need to enable some options in the beebeep.rc file and you're done.
Did you have updated with a new version? If it is true you have to mantain the same folder or delete the file beebeep.ini.
Check the log or send it to me by email (I will see if there are saving problems).
Thank you for the ticket!
Suspended computer was disconnected from the power supply. After that all chats were lost. The beebeep.dat file was recreated (size drops from above 200KB to 3KB) and now contains only the chat after the power loss.
BeeBEEP 5.6.2, Windows 10, 1903, x64, Language:Polish
It is very strange...
BeeBEEP save chats on closing or disconnection... so if the computer loss energy before saving, the chat can not be saved....
but... BeeBEEP never "recreate" dat file so also "the yesterday chats" must be present...
It seems to me that this is not a problem with user profile.
I have BeeBeep.zip unpacked to C:\beebeep folder - not installed from installer. The beebeep.dat file is in the same folder as beebeep (C:\beebeep). I have no other beebeep.dat files except one copy of whole beebeep folder created about two months ago (the dat file in this copy is also modified about two months ago).
Thank you very much for the feedback.
Ok... I will try to reproduce the bug with my laptop: suspend and then I remove the plug (without battery)...
I'm sure that when PC is about to suspend BeeBEEP saves chats...
Can you make also a test with the new 5.6.4 version or the 5.6.5 (development beta)?
-version (read the instructions)
If you disconnect BeeBEEP chat messages are saved. You can see this line on log...
2019-12-06 10:50:43 Saving chat messages in /home/mastroddi/.local/share/MarcoMastroddiSW/BeeBEEP/beebeep.dat
(This path is in UNIX-like systems)
Hello!
Messages are stored in beebeep.dat file.
Files are saved in Download folder and not in messages' file.
You have to check your download folder.
BeeBEEP takes care about file transfering... after this... the file is saved to the computer and BeeBEEP forget it due security reason.
So, check your backups or your Download folders...
I hope you can find your lost file.
Good luck!

I would like to have a chat application that works over the home network. I tried Matrix, but it seems like you need an actual domain name to use it. You cannot just give it the IP address of the server. Is there anything similar to that? Should I just write a little web page that runs a simple chat room?

This is an on open source LAN messenger that allows you to chat and share files with everyone within your local area network. This app makes it super easy for you not just to communicate with co-workers, family and friends, but also to share information in many different formats.
For a few months, we both typed messages as members of a teleconference. Adozen computerphiles from architecture, genetics, music, and yes, writing wereusing the modem to talk about a common theme, "design," and its rolein our seemingly disparate fields.(3) That teleconference became my new toy. There was camaraderie and stimulation, but no pressure to perform any immediatetask. I found myself using it to unwindwhen I finished my "real"academic writing, I'd log on to the teleconference and chat.
The expressive text was intended for the co-author alone. The writing ischatty, personal, often elliptical, with the compressed syntax and lack ofelaboration we use among members of our own in group. It is a style thatcommunicates only because of the meanings shared between writer and audience.(Chris knew that I would understand his "who-does-what list," a phrasethat might sound cryptic to an anonymous reader.) Michael Spitzer, in"Writing Style in Computer Teleconferences,"(7) found this oddlyconversational intimacy even among people who did not know one another offline. The computer seems to give writers just enough distance to feel safe. Thecomments are public but not published in any permanent way. They tempt us intothe clever asides, the stage whispers, as we pursue our "official"conversation in the essay.
