What system do you use to keep in contact with your employees, during the busy planting and sales season?
Do you use Walkie-talkies, with ear pieces, or hand signals?
My current Wilkie talkies give off a loud screeching when they are near the till area.

We use the Cobras too. We have separate channels for separate departments to keep the chatter down
So Annuals are 1 channel, Drygood another, fashion,Tree lot, perennials, Cashiers and carry out share a channel, we have a Spanish channel for our Mexico team…. and so on
we find they get better reception if you have them on a .4 or .5 channel ( so 1.05 not just 1.00)
We purchase directly from Corbra in the US – we have over 60 staff and so we order 100 units ( 200 walkies) at the start of the season - managers also use push to talk phones to communicate with each other – we don’t do the high end ones because staff loose them, they break and it is just not worth the additional cost.
Also with your Cobras you can purchase more clips separately- it’s the clips that break most of the time so its good to know you can order replacements
they are an expense for sure- but they save the customers a ton of time

I have an ancient Cobra system that was shipped over on the Queen Mary! It is mostly reliable but wearing out fast. I got the Uniden 3 pack system from Costco last year and it's JUNK! At least at my location it's not working. Feedback at every nook and cranny of the greenhouse. Anybody have any other better options?Nadine Stielow

Follow our own brand of home-grown horticulture on...
if you have a large greenhouse the metal of the structure will interfere with those little head set units, also they are not water. humidity proof we tried a number of different ones over the past few years as we also have a clothing store here at eh garden centre– the head sets are a total pain and the staff really resist wearing them- also the customers don’t like it. they want your undivided attention when they are talking to you. You can turn down the vol on a walkie or cover it with your hand, but the head set ones are harder to ignore. and they run at around $150/ piece where the Cobras are $89 for a set of two
Cobra does have an ear piece attachment if you want that feature
they also make models that vibrate – we use those for our bobcat driver

We have been using Midland brand ones here and getting a decent lifespan so far. No toilets yet though! ;) They do make noise if there are right by the computer towers for the till but I would think they all will do that until you start hitting real high end radios that have more shielding.
