GREENFINGERS GARDENING & SOCIAL CLUB ‘CAMPOSOL SECTOR C’
Greenfingers Sector ‘C’ would like to say a big thank you to local
businessman Andrew Brown who has donated a large amount of plants to
the group after reading about their efforts in the local press.
Andrew is delivering the plants this week and the volunteers are ready
to plant them around the sector which will much improve the area.
Also the group would like to say thank you to Kim who has sponsored
their newsletter this month and has paid all the printing costs in
return for advertising her events that will be on at the Golf Club on
the back of the newsletter. The group would also like to say a huge
thank you to the local press including the Sol Times, Simply
Networking, The Camposol Courier and The Costa Calida Chronicle with
so many people reading about our efforts we seem to be the talk of
Camposol. Many thanks to all of them it helps enormously when the
hard work the group is putting in is rewarded in this way.
The Greenfingers group was started by Bernard Holland who lives on
Camposol Sector ‘C’ and he wanted to improve the sector with the help
of volunteers. So far the work carried out by the group has been
clearing the roadside verges, planting and laying membrane and
gravelling, making concrete off road areas for the bins and creating a
Petanca Pitch as well as filling in potholes on the sector’s roads.
The club can also helps it’s residents dispose of their garden rubbish
to the Eco Park by loaning the ASAP Building Contractors trailer and
will take it to your villa, you fill it and Bernard Holland (chairman)
will then take it to the Eco Park. All the group ask is for a
donation to their funds after fuel costs have been taken out. Bernard
can also supply free a very large ton sack for garden rubbish that
will fit in the boot of your car so you can take it to the Eco Park
yourself thus freeing up the bins for domestic rubbish which always
becomes a problem in the summer. All he asks is that you return the
bag to him so other residents can use it.
There are regular meetings of the residents to discuss what they would
like improved in their area and also social events including a Street
Barbecue to officially open the Petanca Pitch a Quiz Night and a Disco
Evening at the golf club which have all raised valuable funds for the
group. The group had a trailer donated last year which has been
invaluable but was unfortunately stolen in July but Kevin Hicks who
owns Camposol Heating & Maintenance (CHM) has kindly bought a trailer
for the groups use and has had it sign written with his company name
and Greenfingers and it will be well used to transport water tanks for
the plants as well as gardening material for whatever project is in
progress, the group is more than grateful to him for coming to the
rescue.
The group has recently been sending out a newsletter to its residents
telling them of forthcoming events and asking for volunteers to help
with the projects and the response has been very good with lots of
donations of money, plants, a barbecue and garden furniture for around
the Petanca Pitch as well as bric a brac and clothing for the
forthcoming Table Top sale in the square on Sector B on 24 September.
Further events that the group are putting on are a Barbecue, Street
Party & Disco by the Petanca Pitch on Sunday 12 September 7pm until
Late and a 60’s & 70’s Theme Night with Martin Ross on Friday 22
October at the Golf Club everybody is welcome and if you would like
tickets or more information please contact Bernard Holland on
626513842, e-mail
spainv...@gmail.com or visit the website
groups.google.com/group/greenfingersc. The group do need more
volunteers for a variety of roles from helping with the manual work
around the sector to selling tickets for the events or shaking buckets
to collect money from passing motorists to raise much needed funds and
if you think you may be able to help please contact Bernard who will
be very pleased to hear from you. Residents and visitors have now
started remarking how good Sector ‘C’ is looking and the group want to
improve it further as well as maintaining the work they have already
done and Bernard has a lot more projects in the pipeline so look out
for the working parties and stop and give them a few words of
encouragement or even better give a donation to help the group improve
Sector ‘C’ even more and make it a beautiful place to live.
