Kara Holmquist has invited you to join the Friends
of SouthWest Boston Parklands group with this message:
Hi -- This is an invite to a google group formed to facilitate communication
among those interested in the formation of dog recreation spaces in Southwest
Boston (W. Rox. Ros, JP, Hyde Park), to encourage responsible dog ownership,
and to facilitate effective communication between dog owners and city
officials in this part of Boston.
Here is the group's description:
This is a group for dog owners in the West Roxbury/Roslindale/JP/Hyde Park who
are interested in helping maintain public parklands and exploring and
promoting dog recreation spaces based on responsible dog ownership and mutual
respect among multiple and diverse park users.

Subject: Notes from dog park meeting last night -- look for an invite to
the new Google group
Thank you to everyone who attended last night's meeting. A lot was
accomplished. I will summarize below. Please feel free to email me with
questions.
1. About 20 people attended this 4th meeting. I think we were really able
to roll up our sleeves and get some work done to move forward.
2. There was consensus about moving forward to seek a site to create a
fenced-in dog run. This is probably the goal with the most support. There
will also be a group who will work to explore off-leash areas or hours at
Millenium and another that will focus primarily on education and efforts to
promote responsible dog ownership.
3. There was some preliminary discussion of other sites (since Millenium
is unlikely), with more research to be done. Councillor O'Malley's office
is also exploring options with Commissioner Pollak about spaces. Barry
Margolin researched some sites and I will upload these to the google group
(see #4).
4. I will set up a google group (look for an invite) that will allow
people to communicate with each other and allow the board (see #5 below) to
post information.
5. We elected a board who will begin the process to incorporate, which
will allow the group to accept donations, be "official" etc.
The officers are:
Maria Paul - Pres - maria...@comcast.net
Barry Margolin -- VP - bmar...@paintedscreen.net
Peggy Vollmer -- Treas. mhvo...@yahoo.com
Other board members include:
me, Stacey Kottis, Lisa Becker, Claudia Dunne and Alan Symkus.
I will post more contact information for these people on the google group soon.
If you are interested in being a board member, it isn't too late. Please
let our new officers know.
6. The next meeting is tentatively set for 6:30 on Monday, December
12th. I will confirm as soon as I am able to get the room reserved. But
please save the date.
Thanks again everyone and please look for and accept the google
invite. This will allow us to facilitate communication. Again, let me
know if you have any questions or if you have any trouble with the google
group.

Subject: Reminder -- dog park meeting tomorrow night; please RSVP
Just a reminder about the meeting tomorrow night. Please see below for the
topics that will be discussed. If you can RSVP to me, that would help
planning for the meeting. Also, we have only had a nomination for
president and treasurer, so are still seeking people interested taking a
leadership position within the potential Friends group.
Thanks,
Kara

Residents interested in exploring the feasibility of an off-leash dog park
in West Roxbury are invited to attend a meeting on Wednesday, November 30
at 6:00 pm at the Roche Community Center, 1716 Centre Street.
The purpose of this meeting will be to:
1. Establish a direction in light of the information obtained at the last
meeting, that most of Millenium Park is not an option because of
environmental issues associated with the landfill cap. Possible options to
discuss moving forward, include pursuing:
· The potential space outside the capped area (in the dock area)
· Official off-leash policy/hours on lower trail
· Other sites in W. Roxbury that might be suitable for a dog park --
or a combination of these
· In addition to the above site issues, general efforts the group can
make to promote responsible dog ownership
2. Form a Friends group to spearhead these efforts. Ideally, we d elect
at this meeting:
· President
· Vice President
· Secretary
· Treasurer
Anyone who is interested should live in Boston and can express interest
(nominate themselves) by emailing KHolm...@mspca.org. A short statement
of interest would be helpful and I will compile in a document these to be
circulated.
For those who have attended a past meeting about this, it is clear that an
effort to do this not only needs to be but should be --
citizen-driven. Councillor O Malley has initiated the start; it s up to
those who want to lead this effort to continue it.
Please RSVP to KHolm...@mspca.org or with any questions.
