Hello Team,

The ILT and EL Team want to share the feedback from yesterday’s Learning Walk with the Network 8 EL Specialist and team. The results were overwhelmingly positive, and the Network team was highly impressed by the instruction and student engagement they observed.

The hard work everyone has put into the implementation of QTEL is clearly evident. Here are the strengths noted during the walk:

  • Student Talk: The EL Network Specialist highlighted the high level of active, peer-to-peer academic communication using the domains of language across grade levels.

  • QTEL Implementation: The planning and execution of QTEL tasks across all 3 Moments were specifically praised as a major asset to our instructional practice.

As we move forward in Q4 and start thinking about next school year, we want to maintain this standard while continuing our focus on two key instructional areas:

  • Productive Struggle: Providing ALL students (including EL and DL students) the time and space to independently grapple with complex concepts before stepping in to scaffold.

  • Student Communication: Providing students with tools and supports to articulate their reasoning, debate/challenge ideas, and collaborate with their peers through modeling and explicit instruction.

Thank you for all your hard work!  Let’s keep this momentum as we prepare for the EOY Network Landscape Walk on April 30th.  Let us know if you have questions.

ILT/Bilingual Team!
