(I apologize - this is in Adams Morgan, but I imagine it could be "customized" for Cleveland Park.)

The ANC subcommittee that decides what kinds of projects like recycling to engage in met last week, and were very positive about the idea of having a truck parked in the neighborhood so that residents could bring their household hazardous and e-waste to be transported to Ft Totten. One downside was that they said they could not do items like TVs. I replied that that was the whole point of having this service. Their reply was that twice a year, they do have a "brick and mortar" household hazardous waste recycling event at a local school, something I didn't know about, and people can bring their old TVs there. So that's good. So, their plan is to have the truck transport waste from the neighborhood twice a year, supplemented by the twice a year recycling even at the school.

Finally, the truck that would do this is part of one of those BID cleaning teams. They do a lot of trash hauling and commercial recycling so they more or less know the drill. They are NOT a commercial hauler. They're a nonprofit. And I mention this because IMHO, those trash haulers recycle only about 37% of the time, and the ANC members and local business group representative assured me that the BID team REALLY DOES RECYCLE.  They are also going to draw up a proposal to, for a fee, having their truck come out to your residence to pick up your recycling. This is the pot sweetener for them.

It's not over, just getting started, and will take lots of following up.
