Acceptable/Prohibited Household Hazardous Waste Items
We Will Accept:
•Aerosol •Motor oil •LED lights
•Ant poisons •Lights of all types • Electronics
•Antifreeze •Paints, oil-based •Lawn or garden products
•Asbestos •Pet flea control •Mercury
•Auto fluids – brake, transmission •Photographic chemicals •Mercury thermometers
•Bleach •Pool and spa chemicals •Insecticides
•Compressed fluorescent lamps •Propane tanks, no larger than 20 lbs.
•Drain decloggers •Rodent poisons •Household cleaning products
•Fire extinguishers (household sizes) •Stains, lacquers, varnishes •Motor oil
•Flammable adhesives •Thinners, mineral spirits •Flares
•Flammable waxes and abrasives •Fluorescent tubes 4 feet or less
•Fluorescent lights, u-shape and circular •Household batteries – tape terminals of lithium-based and batteries greater than 9 volts
We Will NOT Accept:
•Air conditioners (Call 311 for a bulk trash collection appointment.)
•Ammunition (Take to the closest police station.)
•Explosives (Take to the closest police station.)
•Medicine (DO NOT FLUSH OR POUR! Take to drug take-back-site (check
http://www.deadiversion.usdoj.gov/drug_disposal/takeback/for next date). OR Mix with dirt, cat litter or used coffee grounds, then put in trash. Recycle empty bottle after marking out personal information or removing the identification label from bottle.)
•Microwave ovens (call 311 for bulk trash collection appointment)
•Tires (While not accepted in the Saturday HHW/E-Cycling Drop-Off, up to four tires may be taken to the Ft. Totten Trash Transfer Station during regular business hours, weekdays from 1 pm to 5 pm and from 8 am to 3 pm on Saturdays, except holidays.)
•Wooden TV cabinets or consoles (Call 311 for a bulk trash collection appointment)
