Location: Austin TX - Hybrid

Duration: 8 Months

Job Summary

Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) is seeking a Senior Database Administrator to support a critical database modernization and cloud migration initiative. This role will focus on managing, optimizing, and migrating enterprise Oracle databases to Azure cloud environments while ensuring high performance, reliability, and data integrity.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience in Oracle database administration, cloud migration, performance tuning, and working within Agile environments supporting enterprise applications.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain Oracle and SQL Server databases
  • Lead migration of on-premise Oracle databases to Azure cloud, including data restructuring and storage optimization
  • Perform database performance tuning, monitoring, and optimization to ensure high availability and efficiency
  • Manage backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and business continuity
  • Administer Oracle GoldenGate for data replication and synchronization
  • Design and implement logical and physical data models for enterprise applications
  • Develop and maintain database standards, policies, and procedures
  • Convert and optimize batch processes (e.g., cron jobs) into database-managed jobs
  • Collaborate with application development teams (Java full-stack) in an Agile/Scrum environment
  • Support database integration with cloud services and multi-tier applications
  • Monitor database health, storage capacity, and performance metrics
  • Provide technical support and guidance to development and business teams

 

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in database administration
  • 8+ years of experience with Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server
  • Strong expertise in database design, performance tuning, and optimization
  • Experience designing and supporting enterprise-level applications
  • Experience with Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) in Agile environments (Scrum preferred)
  • Experience with multi-tier architectures (Microservices, SOA, or 3-tier systems)
  • Strong experience creating technical and functional documentation

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Azure cloud services, including Azure SQL and Blob Storage
  • Experience migrating on-premise databases to cloud environments (Azure preferred)
  • Experience with ETL processes and data integration
  • Experience with large-scale, high-availability database systems
  • Familiarity with Power BI and reporting environments
  • Experience with DevOps tools, CI/CD pipelines, and Git
  • Oracle GoldenGate experience
  • Azure or DBA certifications
