Hi,

We finished our second training session on 'Passive Solar Design, Daylighting and Simulations for Green Buildings at New Delhi on 28 th October. The New Delhi workshop saw a multi-disciplinary participation from architects, mechanical engineers, facade consultants and PhD students which was very encouraging. A summary of our Delhi workshop with feedback from participants is attached for your reference.

We are happy to inform you that EDS and IIHS have joined hands to offer the next and the third workshop in this series in Bengaluru in 1st/2nd week of Feb.  Pre-registration for the workshop is open until 9th December, 2012!!. Following key topics were covered in the training program.

1.    Understanding sun movement using Sun-path diagrams and Solar Tool.

2.    Analysing impact of mutual shading by manually generating a Shadow Mask using a physical model and 3D protractor.

3.    Design and optimize horizontal and vertical shading devices manually using shadow angle protractor as well as calculations for various cases.

4.    Rules of thumb for estimating daylight levels.

5.    Validating all manual exercise in computer simulation tool.

6.    Analyse simulation results for various cases and derive recommendations.

7.    Properties of glass and criteria for selection.

8.    Understanding daylight requirements as per LEED NC, Green Homes and GRIHA including documentation for simulation and prescriptive methods.

The training program has been designed in such as way that the concepts are first taught using a combination of theory and manual exercises followed by hands-on teaching of the simulation tool for designing and optimizing shading devices to achieve desired daylight levels.
