EDS and IIHS have joined hands to offer a training program on ‘Passive Solar Design, Daylighting and Simulations for Green Buildings’ at Bengaluru on 2nd and 3rd February, 2013.

This two day program is designed for professionals involved in green building design, daylighting and LEED/GRIHA certification. It will further strengthen the concepts of passive solar design and add simulation and analytical skill.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVE:
Equip participants with the practical know-how to undertake daylight analysis independently.

KEY TOPICS COVERED IN THE TRAINING PROGRAM:
  • Understanding sun movement using Sun-path diagrams and Solar Tool.
  • Analysing impact of mutual shading by manually generating a Shadow Mask using a physical model and 3D protractor.
  • Design and optimize shading devices manually using shadow angle protractor as well as basic calculations.
  • Validating manual exercises in computer simulation tool.
  • Analyse simulation results for various cases and derive inferences.
  • Properties of glass and criteria for selection.
  • Rules of thumb for estimating daylight levels.
  • Understanding daylight requirements as per LEED, Green Homes and GRIHA including documentation.
The program has been designed in such as way that the concepts are first taught using a combination of theory and manual exercises. This is followed by hands-on teaching of simulation tools for designing shading devices and analysing results to achieve desired daylight levels.
