Alderson Community Market Opens at Alderson BridgeFest on Saturday, May 18th

The Alderson Community Market will be opening its 3rd season on Saturday, May 18th, in the lot of the Greenbrier Interpretive Center along Rte 12 in Alderson. There will be a variety of local products on offer, including delicious baked goods, potted plants and seedlings, pork sausage, greens and eggs. Musical entertainment will be provided by local favorites Randy Goodson and Friends. All youth 12 years old and under are welcomed to join the Carrot Club, with great incentives for multiple visits to the market this season. Interested vendors are invited to apply in person or by calling 304 445 3040 or writing to alderso...@gmail.com. The market runs from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM. You might even spot Leo the Lion buying himself some delicious donuts!

The market's opening day this year coincides with Alderson's First BridgeFest, a collaborative celebration of Alderson's unique natural, cultural and historic treasures. The Johnson Methodist Church will feature crafts, hot food and yard sale items at its Spring Fling in the Methodist Church lot from 9 AM to 2 PM. Friends of the Lower Greenbrier River (FOLGR) will host exhibitors on the old pedestrian bridge, a cardboard boat competition at the Alderson Mini Park (10 AM), and invites the general public to paddle down the Greenbrier  at 1 PM (meeting at the Mini Park). Main Street will be opening the Greenbrier Interpretive Center, featuring FOLGR's newly completed Greenbrier watershed topographical model, and will be leading a walking tour of Historic Alderson starting at 10:30 AM from there. Local author Belinda Anderson will be reading from her new children's novel, inspired by Alderson, in the basement of the Alderson Presbyterian Church at 2 PM, followed by a book signing at the historic Alderson's Store. Don't forget to stop by Stuart's Hot Dawgs, which will be selling BBQ on the bridge.
