Summer/Seasonal Laborer-Parks Pioneers

  • DEPARTMENT: Parks & Recreation - Summer
  • FULL SALARY RANGE: $7.25 /Hour

  • JOB TYPE: A6 - Part Time - Summer Programs
  • FLSA: Non-exempt position, eligible for overtime compensation.

JOB OBJECTIVE:

  • Performs manual labor to repair and maintain City Parks.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Operates hand and tractor mowers to cut grass.
  • Checks level of fuel, oil, and other fluids before operating equipment.
  • Operates hand held power trimmer and power blower to remove grass and debris.
  • Assists in mixing and applying herbicides, fertilizers, and other materials to grass, shrubs, and trees.
  • Trims, cuts, and moves trees, shrubs and other plants as needed; repairs hand tools such as shovel, rakes, pruners etc.
  • Assists with transplanting and watering, mowing and trimming around buildings and planting containers at greenhouse & tree nursery facilities .
  • Performs minor repairs on equipment, such as replacing blades, belts and filters.
  • Assists with installation and maintenance of drinking and decorative fountains, sprinkler and irrigation systems.
  • Prepares soil for planting or laying sod; notifies supervisor of major problems with plant damage or disease.
  • Helps in setting up and taking down special events such as Riverfest, Fishing Derby and the Adopt-A-Park program activities.
  • Sweeps and/or rakes park grounds and parking lots to remove leaves, mud, fallen branches and other debris.
  • Empties trash barrels located on park grounds and picks up trash and litter in parks and along street rights of way.
  • Performs landscaping activities as directed.
  • Cleans rest rooms and pavilions.
  • Assists with repairs and maintenance of park amenities such as signs, sprinkler systems, playground equipment, fountains, benches, tables, walks, plantings, trails, and other park assets.
  • Uses various hand tools to fill holes in park grounds; prepares and paints interior and exterior surfaces of buildings, grills, trash receptacles and benches.
  • Provides support to building maintenance and park facility construction activities.
  • Notifies supervisor of broken or non-working equipment or facilities.
