A Presentation in Marathi  on Save the Hills Of Pune; Copies distributed to 150 Ganesh Mandals.

 

The Green Pune Movement is a coalition of 50+ NGOs of Pune who have come together to save the Hills of Pune..

 

Just as Bal Gangadhar Tilak invoked Swarajya during Ganesh Utsav, the Green Pune Movement has launched a fresh initiative this Ganapati festival to sensitize the public on the irreversible damage to the city’s already deteriorated living conditions if the government permits any form of construction on the hills of Pune and its 23 fringe villages.

 

This powerful message has been conveyed in a two minute presentation using a series of familiar images and sounds of this most popular of festivals and the scenic hills all around.

 

The presentation is accompanied by a simple, matter-of-fact commentary urging the viewer to look around and estimate for himself the damage that would be caused if all the hills and water bodies of Pune were to be built-upon : this when Pune already is the third most polluted city in the country.

 

However all is not lost yet. In our democratic system citizens can voice their dissent through peaceful protest.

 

150 copies of the presentation have been distributed to various city mandals by Prakash Ladkat of NGO Maza Gaon Maza Desh. And more will be distributed as there is a lot of demand 

 

Mr. Ladkat’s organization works for green issues; in 2009 the least noise polluting mandal from among 3000 Ganesh mandals was awarded a significant cash prize.
