About the "testing": This is my first time through this process, but Google requires them to see real people using the app over a continuous two-week window before I'm allowed to release it publicly. So: install it, open it every few days, press a few buttons. The catch is you need to stay installed and opted in the whole two weeks. A quick poke on day one and then uninstalling actually breaks it for me, so please leave it on until I say so.

Real feedback is welcome but not required. I don't need you to discover that something breaks after some crazy 6-step process — but if you do find it, thanks! At a minimum I just need you to go in periodically and kick the tires.

Timing: Your two weeks starts whenever you opt in, so the sooner you join the sooner you're done — if you can get it installed in the next day or two, that's ideal. I'll send a quick "all clear" when your part is finished so you know when it's safe to uninstall.

What it is: A simple financial forecasting app I wrote called Green Prophet. It projects your account balance into the future based on the recurring bills and income you enter.

What it is not: A full-featured personal finance or budgeting app. It doesn't keep a history of the past, sync with your bank, do budgeting, or make investment suggestions. There are lots of (elaborate, subscription-required) apps out there that already do that, and I'm not interested in replicating them. I just want the answer to one question: how much money should be in my account a week / month / year from now?

Why: It started as a project for myself. I couldn't find anything that did this, the way I wanted it, for free. So I wrote it myself. Eventually I figured I'd come far enough that I should just publish it. I genuinely don't know if anyone else will find it useful. This isn't my million-dollar idea and I'm not raising venture capital for it. Lol. If nothing else, it's a good line on my resume.

Privacy: Nothing is sent to a server anywhere, for any reason. Put it in Airplane mode if you don't believe me. :) I'll never know if you put real data in. But, you also don't have to, because on the Settings tab there's a button that generates sample transactions for you (start there!), plus one that deletes everything.

Detailed walkthrough (totally optional):

From the first screen, tap the plus button. You can create transactions on a recurring schedule (daily, weekly, monthly, bimonthly, quarterly, bi-annually, or annually). Put in the name and the amount. Some of the schedules have more complex options if you want to dig in — for example, weekly can be "every N weeks on a certain day of the week." When you're done, tap Save, and the Transactions tab shows a table of what's coming up. At the top, enter your starting balance and the date range you want to see.

Since the app doesn't sync with anything, you keep it current manually — but I think I made it easy. Tap one or more transactions in the table, and you can:

Enter – updates your balance by that amount and advances the transaction to its next scheduled date
Skip – doesn't change your balance, but still advances to the next date
Delete – banished from the transaction list forever! (don't worry, it's just test data)
Edit – jump to the screen to change the amount, schedule, etc.

The Graph tab shows — you guessed it — a graph of your balance over time.
