Greetings. We have lived in Green Park for the last 4 years with no unpleasant incident at all. Seems like what Eric shared brought fear. I think his intention was more of concern and sharing information . The incidents he shared are not uncommon in any other part of the Nairobi city. Together we can make Greenpark the best place to live. Do not hesitate to move into the estate. It s a great place to live. Karibuni!

Dear neighbours,
This is a rather long email, but I beg your indulgence.
As the chairman and some neighbours have pointed out, the issue of security indeed does require our collective vigilance, input and to a very great extent, sacrifice.
I say sacrifice because there are certain 'conveniences' that we may need to forego in order to ensure that our security is guaranteed. I have put down some proposals on security measures that we may need to implement. However, by and large, these proposals need us to be ready to abide by so that the security personnel can easily implement them.
Greenpark has already gained prominence as a serene and beautiful estate. We MUST send the message to all our visitors and neighbours that Greenpark is also the MOST secure estate in Nairobi and its environs. Security experts amongst us will agree that perception is a big deterrent to insecurity (the reason why you undergo car and body checks and leave ID cards before being granted access to some buildings in town).

1. Registration of ALL domestic workers – housemaids and gardeners within one week. Superior Homes should then issue the domestic workers through home-owners badges/ ID cards which should be retained at all times and produced on demand. These ID’s should always be left at the gate when the domestic workers/ gardeners leave the estate and returned to them when they report back to work. In the event that they are discontinued the home-owners should surrender the ID’s to the office. To avoid huge expenses due to the turn-over of workers the badges could read ( PERMANENT – HSE No: 113) and for casuals (Temporary – Hse 113)
2. Registration of all visitors to the estate. When one has a visitor who may stay for more than a day, security MUST be made aware
3. Security personnel should be granted access to patrol the front and backyards
4. Day workers must not be allowed to roam the estate. If one is found loitering, security should escort them outside the estate and the resident who had booked them in alerted
5. More visible security patrols around the estate
6. All visitor vehicles must undergo security checks at the gate – including checking the boot and interior
7. All visitors must be logged in detail – car registration, and number of occupants in the vehicle. If number in does not match number out, explanation must first be sought from the host resident
8. All residents must record at least one telephone contact with security.
9. Residents must alert the main gate of any guests. Such alerts will be registered either in person, or via a telephone call only from the registered telephone number
10. Re-introduce car stickers for all residents. If a resident uses a different temporary car, then the new car must be registered with security
11. Taxis will only be allowed into the estate if a resident is on board. In the event a resident has summoned a taxi to pick them from the estate, they must alert the main gate via registered telephone number or physically with vehicle and driver details.
12. Security reserves the right to stop any person they consider strange within the estate and to question them. If security is not satisfied with answers given, then security has the right to seek confirmation from the registered resident of a particular house or to escort the suspicious person outside the estate
13. Homeowners must register their tenants with security. A tenant will not be allowed to carry their belongings out of the estate until the homeowner alerts the security, in writing. Where a homeowner wants to use the services of an agent, then security will be made aware that the agent has power of attorney.
Of course the biggest part of this would be to make sure that our security personnel are empowered and feel responsible, accountable and authorised to do their work.

As the chairman and some neighbours have pointed out, the issue of security indeed does require our collective vigilance, input and to a very great extent, sacrifice.
I say sacrifice because there are certain 'conveniences' that we may need to forego in order to ensure that our security is guaranteed. I have put down some proposals on security measures that we may need to implement. However, by and large, these proposals need us to be ready to abide by so that the security personnel can easily implement them.
Greenpark has already gained prominence as a serene and beautiful estate. We MUST send the message to all our visitors and neighbours that Greenpark is also the MOST secure estate in Nairobi and its environs. Security experts amongst us will agree that perception is a big deterrent to insecurity (the reason why you undergo car and body checks and leave ID cards before being granted access to some buildings in town).
